Hello,

This is to inform you about the 2008 edition of the Tour of the Fireflies on Sunday, April 20, 6:30 AM at Tiendesitas, Pasig City. If you have or can use a bike on that day, join us for a 50 km ride across several cities in Metro Manila. The ride starts at 7 AM and will end at around 12 noon also at Tiendesitas. Awarding ceremonies to the best costumed bikers wearing earth-friendly themes will then follow. As always, the schedule of this yearly tour has been timed to be near the World's Earth Day event (April 22, http://ww2.earthday.net/).

Get ready to join thousands of bikers including kids as young as 6, grampas as old as 65 and out of shape people. If they can do it, so can you! Last year's tour saw more than 5,000 registered participants. Along with unregistered riders, some estimates put the peloton numbers at around 6,500 strong - and lasting several minutes passing by an arbitrary landmark!

The pace of the ride is only 10 - 15 kph with a few rest stops along the way! T-shirts (P150) and jerseys (P300) are available at the registration booth on the tour day itself starting at 5:30 AM.

The Tour of the Fireflies (ToF) is an annual 50-km bicycle ride through seven cities to promote the use of the bicycle as an alternative means of transportation that is cheap, efficient, environmentally sensible and good for one's health.

This year, synchronized bicycle rides in Cagayan de Oro, Bacolod, Baguio, and Tarlac are being organized by supporters to drum up more support for sustainable transportation and livable communities.
